New Hawaii Disney Vacation Club Resort Announced
ALOHA!: Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo (right) shared plans for its future resort Oct. 16, 2008, in Hawaii with Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann (left). Scheduled to open in 2011, the expansive family resort will be located in the Ko Olina area on the western side of Oahu and will include 350 hotel rooms and 480 villas for Disney Vacation Club, Disney's growing timeshare business.

The resort will also include two towers surrounding a garden with a water-area and a manmade volcano that will serve as the "icon" of the resort. There will be a tube waterslide, with rapids, a bubbling pool and other effects, as well as a saltwater lagoon for snorkeling with both native fish and some elements of Disney characters.

ICE PALACE – Shimmering lights illuminate Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom during the holidays at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

ICE PALACE – Shimmering lights illuminate Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom during the holidays at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Bathed in more than 200,000 tiny white lights, the castle glows and glistens as early as Nov. 10 with the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which will showcase the Castle Dream Lights. For tickets and information about the after-hours party, guests can visit disneyworld.com/holidays or call 407-W-DISNEY now.

BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS!: As the central Florida temperature tops 90 degrees outside, Cecil Gordon of Walt Disney World Holiday Services touches up the face of a six-foot-tall angel tree-topper inside one of the resort's holiday warehouses in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The angel will be placed on the top of the giant Christmas tree at the Epcot theme park during the holiday season later this year. Gordon and his colleagues are currently on round-the-clock schedules behind-the-scenes at Walt Disney World Resort, decorating more than 1,500 Christmas trees, unpacking more than 15 miles of garland, testing dozens of snow machines and repainting hundreds of animated and static holiday scenes that will be seen by guests all across the 40-square-mile resort. Gordon, from St. Mary, Jamaica, has worked for Walt Disney World for 19 years.
